After taking in dogs without a human family, Ms Andrews and the group she heads, Chihuahua Rescue, find the dogs a permanent home.
She said at the dogs went through temperament training, were vet checked, de-sexed, vaccinated and micro-chipped, then the search for a home could begin.
‘As with most rescues in Australia our main objective is to take in dogs who have been handed in to pounds, vets, who are lost, abandoned or surrendered for many different reasons,’ Ms Andrews said.

Ms Andrews started Chihuahua Rescue after her search for a second chihuahua to keep her pet Ratbag company led her to finding many unwanted dogs.
‘I did find many other chihuahuas needing new homes that I could not help and this really hit hard,’ she said.
‘Soon after I purchased a young, black puppy who was the start of the rescue. Since then we have grown and become an associated incorporation and are in the application stage of becoming a fully registered charity with full tax status.’
In the first year, Ms Andrews rescued 13 dogs.
‘Each and every one of those sweet babies will forever be in my heart and memories,’ she said.

Dogs are taken for a two-week trial by their new families before being permanently adopted. An adoption fee is payable.
