GETTING a trim or taking a risk on a new do can be an anxiety-inducing experience, but Mt Pleasant-based hairdressing apprentice Brenton Malone is proving a man with safe hands.

Mr Malone claimed first place in the Long Hair Design category at South Metropolitan Tafe’s recent Hair Excellence Awards.

Mr Malone has been based at the Firm Hair Technology Centre on Ogilvie Road for two years.

Firm Hair owner Edward Owen said he has had 18 apprentices across the 20 years he has run the business, with Mr Malone ranking as one of his brightest.

He said it did not take long to realise he had real talent.

“His ability to learn and his thirst for knowledge was unprecedented,” Mr Owen said.

“It was a matter of giving him more and more knowledge because he needed to be challenged.

“Brenton is a very successful stylist in his own right and I would not ever discount him going all the way to the top in this industry.”
