KARDINYA resident Alexa Morgan has been named among the recipients of a 2018 Perth Airport Achiever Award.
The awards, hosted by the Department of Communities, offer financial help to 15 to 25-year-olds in care or who have left care so they can pursue further education or training.
Ms Morgan, who herself spent 10 years in a mix of family care services, is currently studying special needs education at Notre Dame.
The 21-year-old has also spent time as a volunteer youth consultant at Create Foundation, a body representing children and young people.
Child Protection Minister Simone McGurk described each of the 32 award recipients as inspirational.
“These young people have faced enormous obstacles in their early years,” she said.
“However they have found the strength and resilience to pursue further education and training opportunities which gives them the power to make a positive transformation for the way ahead.
“It is also important to acknowledge the young winners’ support network which includes family and foster carers.”
