Language with a local twist

The language classes, run by Sharon Gregory, will be a chance for the community to share, learn and celebrate the Noongar culture.

"Noongar lady Sharon Gregory will hold classes every Monday at the Willagee Community Centre to encourage cultural awareness and also to promote the relevance of the Noongar language and the words specifically used in the Willagee area," Mayor Russell Aubrey said.

"Translated, Noongar means"a person of the south-west of Western Australia", or the name for "the original inhabitants of the south-west of Western Australia", and is made up of 14 different language groups that correlate with different areas across the region."

Classes, for both children and adults will run from May 4.
