Leak diverts patients

Tim MayneMelville Gazette

PATIENTS have been diverted from Fiona Stanley Hospital to other hospitals after another large water leak.

This is the second time there has been a water leak at the hospital after patients were evacuated in April when a water pipe supplying ward towers burst, causing flooding.

Fiona Stanley Hospital maintenance staff were installing a replacement part.

In a statement, the hospital said: “There has been no water damage to the operating theatres, however, theatre cases have ceased temporarily as a safety measure.

“The hospital anticipates returning to the majority of normal operations by late afternoon.”

A spokesperson for Health Minister Kim Hames said it was not known whether the cause of the leak was the same as the one in April.

“But if it is, the Minister would be very concerned and thorough checks would be conducted on all the systems involved,” the spokesperson said.
