THE Leeming Bowling Club will install an automated greens watering and reticulation system after receiving a $17,000 Federal Government grant last week.

Tangney MHR Ben Morton made the announcement on Friday, joined at the club by former Prime Minister Tony Abbott and club patron and MLA Joe Francis.

“Leeming Bowling Club has some 250 members who bowl year round and love their sport,” Mr Morton said.

“This Federal Government grant will mean the greens last longer and maintain bowl speed and accuracy which is great for both competitive and social bowlers.

“It’s a big win for club volunteers who will no longer need to drag heavy fire hoses across the greens to hand water the surface, a time-consuming process and hard work for older volunteers.”

Leeming Bowling Club currently operates two synthetic grass greens and the maintenance of the greens is carried out by volunteers.

Club president Colin McCavana said members and volunteers could not be happier.
