He said although he had never lived in Russia, he was always interested in the country’s rich history and culture.

“Also, I think Russian is a great language to learn; it opens so many opportunities in the modern world,” he said.

“There are so many professions these days where Russian can be useful, including science, business and politics”

Arthur was selected for the trip after the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a competition through its Russian embassies in 82 countries, during which participants were asked to make a presentation on a topic related to Russian culture and history.

During the trip, the teenagers visited numerous cultural exhibitions, art galleries, cathedrals, the Kremlin and Moscow State University.

“It was an amazing, eye-opening experience,” Arthur said.

“I made so many new friends from different countries.

“Also, as an Australian representative, I was able to bring a message about our country, its culture, history and beautiful nature.

“I want to inspire others to learn languages. I believe that in today’s world, the ability to speak multiple languages is a critical skill, it opens so many doors for you.”
