RENOVATIONS at LeisureFit Melville are underway.

Stage 1 works on the Canning Highway facility will include relocating the administration offices to the disused cafe pod area, the refurbishment of the old offices into a child-minding space, the creation of new meeting rooms and the transformation of the foyer into the Gymbakids play area.

The centre’s main reception will be moved, in the short term, to the temporary AH Bracks Library.

Work will be finished in late August.

Stage 2 will involve the different services moving into their fresh areas along with the relocation of the Melville Bridge Club into a larger, purpose-built space within the facility.

A new alfresco and multifunctional room that can be hired for public events will also be created.

Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said the transformation, to be finished in November, would be a big boost for those that use the facility.

“Together with the exciting upgrades happening at the co-located AH Bracks Library and the relocation of the Melville Bridge Club to our facility, we really see it transforming into a hub for community activity,” he said.

The main carpark off Stock Road will be closed between June and August for resurfacing.

The overflow carpark will remain open and alternate parking will be available on the perimeter of Melville Reserve.
