Library upgrade complete

Susanne ReillyMelville Gazette

The library now has self-service radio-frequency identification technology, which is in line with the City of Melville's Future Plan for Libraries, Museums and Local History Services 2010-2015.

The plan identified a community wish for revitalised library facilities, more modern, zoned spaces in the City's libraries and a shift towards technology.

It is the fourth of the City's libraries to be upgraded since 2011.

Mayor Russell Aubrey said the new RFID self-service technology meant library users could be more independent, with no more waiting in queues to be served.

"Customers can now check out their own items for loan, with the added benefit that staff can now spend more time assisting customers with enquiries and book selections," he said.

"The upgrade also responds to the community's desire for more space, with increased opportunities now for customers to read, study, learn and relax and for larger numbers to attend library programs and events."

AH Bracks Library is on the corner of Stock Road and Canning Highway, Melville.
