THE Melville Bridge Club has completed its move to LeisureFit Melville after 40 years at its old clubhouse on the corner of Canning Highway and Simpson Street.

While the facilities are only separated by a five-minute drive, the move is an important one for the club.

Boasting about 350 members, the club hopes the new facilities will attract more.

Committee member Claire Weston said the previous clubhouse was on City of Melville land, which the council was looking to develop.

“The council has been good in terms of listening to us and what we needed,” she said.

“We now have 40 tables, which is an increase from the 24 tables we had at the old building.

“Bridge is very good for the brain but it’s also an opportunity to meet friends.”

The club moved into the new facility on February 22 but an official opening will take place on Sunday, March 10.

Melville Bridge Club operates playing sessions Monday to Saturday and occasional Sundays.
