MELVILLE council voted unanimously to grant the Brentwood Karoonda Sporting Association a $200,000 self-supporting loan.

The money will be used to improve floodlighting, construct additional cricket nets and renovate the clubroom at Karoonda Reserve in Booragoon.

The total cost of the project is close to $620,000, with the State Government also contributing $155,000 through Community Sport and Recreation Facility Funding and the association itself making up the rest.

The Association’s member clubs include Brentwood Booragoon Amateur Football Club, Booragoon Junior Football Club, CBC Cricket Club and Bateman Junior Cricket Club.

The City of Melville loan is conditional, pending the association supplying a forward financial plan demonstrating its ability to meet the repayment requirements.

Brentwood Booragoon Football Club previously borrowed $20,000 from the City for flood lighting of the main oval in 2009, repaying the loan as per its repayment schedule in 2012.
