Melville locals divided on size

The City of Melville recently submitted its response to the State Government, regarding the Robson Review recommendation to cut the number of metropolitan local governments from 30 to 12.

While the City did not want 12, it did agree with a reduction of councils and suggested 15 local governments would work best, with the City of Melville staying as it is.

The City said its response was formulated from a number of meetings with other local governments and the responses from its online survey.

Mayor Russel Aubrey said: ‘Key findings from the survey indicated to us that in general the community is divided as to whether larger local governments will in fact increase or decrease efficiency and that people are not particularly clear about the rationale for reform.

‘The City’s survey asked which reform option was preferred by the community’
