JAMIE Lau’s favourite tennis player is Roger Federer so it is no wonder she has been recognised with an award for sportsmanship.
The Melville Senior High School student was among the 43 young WA athletes to receive the Pierre de Coubertin Award for Sportsmanship from the Australian Olympic Committee.
Santa Maria College track and field star Adele Smith also received the honour alongside Jamie with Olympian Lauren Mitchell sharing her story at the presentation ceremony.

READ NOWJamie, who is also head girl at the school, said she started playing tennis when she was six years old in Macau.
“When I moved to Perth for high school, I continued playing for a few clubs,” she said.
“I started playing for the Corinthian Park Tennis Club but I now coach at Thornlie Tennis Club and play for Willetton Tennis Club.
“I’ve also played for the State Team too, I like tennis because it’s fun and you have to rely on yourself.”
Jamie said she admired Federer’s ability not to get frustrated.
“He has mastered the mental side of the game and he is very cool under pressure,” she said.
“My motivation is to continue to get better and hopefully attend college in America and play on the circuit there.”
