More security patrols for school holidays

Staff ReporterMelville Gazette

While Melville will be under the watchful eye of more security patrols with the City offering a holiday watch patrol, authorities are also urging residents to secure their homes before they leave.

‘Residents who register for the holiday watch will have their property patrolled regularly during the day and night while they are away,’ Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said.

‘But residents need to ensure that all doors and windows in the home are securely locked, that neighbours are aware they are away, that someone collects the mail every day and has the residents’ contact details should they be needed.

The City has also developed a Designing Out Crime checklist for residents to assess the security of their property.

The competition closes at 5pm on Friday, May 10. Visit the City of Melville libraries or www.melville city.com.au/safermelville for a checklist.
