Motorcyclist hospitalised after highway crash

A MOTORCYCLIST has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash on Leach Highway on Friday afternoon.

Police said a black 2006 model Mazda 3 sedan was waiting at the Rome Rd intersection intending to turn right onto Leach Highway at 1.55pm.

The Mazda has entered Leach Highway and has struck a 2006 Black Honda motorcycle travelling east on Leach Highway.

A St John Ambulance spokesperson said the rider, a man in his 50s, was taken to Royal Perth Hospital by ambulance with priority one status.

The spokesperson said the man seemed to have received serious injuries with multiple injuries particularly on the right side of the body.

Police said the driver of the Mazda, a man aged in his 20s, was not injured.

Leach Highway eastbound between Stock Road and North Lake Road in Melville was closed for several hours as Major Crash officers were at the scene.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone that witnessed the crash, or that saw either of the vehicles prior to the crash.
