Mt Pleasant Bowling Club asks for community support before move to Tompkins Park

THE Mt Pleasant Bowling Club is asking people to support the organisation after some uncertain times.

The club was supposed to move to Tompkins Park in October 2018 as part of the reserve’s redevelopment but that was delayed.

The new timeline for the club to relocate is March 2020, although the uncertainty has caused the club some harm.

Social bowls have been introduced on Fridays to help the club find new members.

Social chairwoman Susan Allen said the idea was encourage people to come to the club after work.

“It’s an opportunity for people to relax, we have drinks and meals available and they can learn the game of bowls,” she said.

“We have an encouraging atmosphere here and we welcome newcomers.

“We are committed to running the social bowls until the end of February and then we can look at possibly extending it.”

Club president Robert Cook said there had been uncertain times for about two years when signs were placed around the club about what people wanted done with the site.

“I think that turned people off from wanting to join although we have seen a few more people join us lately,” he said.

While the Melville Bowling Club has stated they do not want to move from their current location, the Mt Pleasant Bowling Club has welcomed the move.

The new facility is set to include two new synthetic bowls greens, change rooms, toilets and other amenities.
