Mums seek votes for bush funding

Michele NugentMelville Gazette

Spurred on by local mums Jill Willetts and Anita Manes, parents have formed "The Friends of Palmyra Bush Park" to gain supporters to vote for them in an effort to win a share of $50,000 from the City's popular funding initiative.

The group hopes to enhance the bush block on the corner of Solomon and Justinian streets in Palmyra into a nature play space for children.

"We want to provide large logs and rocks for balancing, climbing and hiding behind; structures to make cubby houses and to play"villages" and a good old rope swing " a place to create," the mums said.

"We would like this space to be for children to use their imagination like in the old days. A place where they can experience being in the bush in these days of small back yards and urban sprawl.

"And an experience different from all the structured, planned brightly coloured playgrounds on every grassy corner."

They have also asked for people to donate their time, materials, including large logs or rocks, plus heavy haulage equipment, including a truck or loader crane.

Any offers of help can be directed to Jill on 0421 355 285 or Anita on 0419 197 422.
