NEW development in the Murdoch Activity Centre could begin by the end of the year with LandCorp today calling for registrations of interest for stage one of the land release.

Seven lots are available for development, expected to deliver up to 400 residences, 33,000sq m of commercial office space and more than 80 short-stay apartments.

Murdoch already contains Fiona Stanley Hospital, St John of God Murdoch and Murdoch University and has been earmarked as a metropolitan health and education hub.

City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey believes the precinct has the potential to become the largest area of employment outside of the Perth CBD with up to 35,000 jobs estimated for the area by 2031.

Lands Minister Terry Redman said LandCorp was targeting medical research and associated commercial activities, consulting suites, clinics, community health and medical research facilities, education services and other complementary industries.

“The precinct is adjacent to the State Government’s $2 billion Fiona Stanley hospital, St John of God hospital, Murdoch University, South Metropolitan TAFE and the Murdoch train and bus interchange,” he said.

“Given its proximity to world-class hospitals and education institutions, the precinct will provide a dynamic, collaborative environment for research and development across both sectors.

“It will help accommodate Perth’s growing population through the delivery of diverse housing choices connected to job opportunities and essential infrastructure.”

Registrations of interest for stage one of the precinct close at 2pm on October 5, with stage one works expected to start in late 2016.
