THREE aged care workers celebrated 15 years of service at a Myaree facility last week.
Aged care provider Opal rewarded a maintenance worker, facility manager and carer for their dedication, placing their names on a 15 year service plaque.
Carer Pauline Manvell began her career in mental health in the UK and started out in hotel services at St Ives before completing a Certificate III in Aged Care.
Opal took over the St Ives facility late last year.
“The satisfaction is the reason I do it,” she said of her opportunity to help others. “I have no nanna or mum so this is the next best thing.”
Stephen Ryan is responsible for the upkeep of the 35-year-old facility and its gardens.
Vanda Liga started out as a carer and moved up through the ranks to manage the Myaree site.
She said the Federal Government’s policy of ‘ageing in place’ presented the greatest challenge given it was an older site that started out as a low care facility and now had some high care clients.
Recruitment of skilled staff was important and she said there was plenty of scope for promotion or travel across the Opal network of aged care facilities.
