BILLABONG Brewery has re-opened following a devastating fire earlier this month.

The fire happened at the Myaree brewery on May 12 and was predominantly contained to the office, library and lounge bar area, with some water damage to the brewhouse and the production area lost access to power and gas.

The brewery crew have worked overtime on the cleanup and last Friday the upstairs bar was again serving beers to visitors.

Brewery owner Alan Proctor, who started the business in 1993, said temporary power was established to the brewhouse a couple of days after the fire.

“Despite the bad luck with the fire we have had a great amount of support that has helped us get back on our feet,” he said.

“We were determined to get back up and running as soon as possible because we really want to look after our customers. We don’t have a business without them.

“It has been great to see so many of our brew-on-premise customers stick by us and be ready to rejoin us when we’re back operating this week.”

Some of the damage following the fire.

There is still some minor cleaning to do in the brewhouse and the office area is believed to be out of action for some time.

Mr Proctor said the company had received positive comments from the public following the fire.

“It was a very devastating set back, it’s meant that our files need to be reconstructed,” he said.

“I’m not sure about the timeline for the renovations because we are not sure about the scope of work.

“We are not sure about the source of the fire.”
