No place like home

The Melville-raised locals are busily nesting in the Myaree home renovated in just seven days in 2013 as part of Channel Sevens House Rules.

Fast forward to 2015, and with a bubbly six-month-old baby boy in tow, the pair spent six weeks earlier this year in Melbourne filming Channel Nines Reno Rumble, currently airing in a race for ratings between several other reality show juggernauts.

And despite the trio and their loveable hound Lola having been up early for television commitments, they were fresh faced and full of energy last Thursday morning when the Times popped by for a quick interview.

Ben, a carpenter, and Jemma, a legal assistant and part time spray tanner, are taking it all in their stride, managing to catch snippets of the show most nights as they go about their normal family life.

Thomas was 12-weeks-old when we went to Melbourne so going on camera with a few extra kilos was a bit hard, Jemma said.

But hes such a happy, healthy, good baby and thats all that matters.

Mum was incredible. She came to Melbourne with us to look after Thomas and I would pop in to see him when I could.

It was easy leaving him in the beginning because I wasnt really in a routine but it got harder to be away from him as time went on.

But the pair now have grand plans for their own home, with a second storey to achieve views of Melville Waters on the cards, to accommodate the three children they hope to have in the future.

On the river side of Leach Highway, the pair purchased the 2×1 in search of a property that would appreciate over time. Just 12 months later it was completely transformed into a 3×2 with a new modern floor plan that gave them the open plan kitchen and living area opening on to a rear deck they had always wanted.

Jemma grew up in Winthrop and went to Leeming Primary School and All Saints College while Ben grew up in McLean Street, Melville and went to Melville Primary and Winthrop Baptist College (now Kennedy Baptist College).

They are content to stay in the neighbourhood they love with a move closer to the Swan River their only desire.
