Police crack down on truck drivers

Felicity Bond, Melville TimesMelville Gazette

Operation Austrans, involving the South Metropolitan Traffic Police, is a collaborative operation that targets road safety issues such as fatigue, speed and drug use among heavy vehicle road users.

On Thursday morning, local traffic police set up a stop point in front of Port Beach in North Fremantle, stopping heavy vehicles and checking for drug use, load compliance and roadworthiness.

Police said driver licence checks were also being conducted to ensure drivers had the appropriate licences to operate the vehicles.
