“Police are now conducting enquiries into her death,” he said.

“We would like to hear from anyone who in the last two or three days has seen anyone or anything that would appear suspicious in the vicinity of the Leach Highway and Stock Road intersection in Melville.”

Sen-Sgt Walsh would not say whether there was any evidence of forced entry nor when exactly police believed the woman had died.

Forensic officers have cordoned off the property and will collect evidence for the next four days.

The woman lived alone but it is believed she had family members living nearby.
