In a WA first, the City of Melville is launching the Robin Hood Project, where $100,000 will be made available for locals to create projects that will improve the community.

Mayor Russell Aubrey said the project asks groups and individuals to come up with ideas and then offers funding and other resources to make it happen.

‘Participatory budgeting is about supporting the creativity of community owned project ideas, and building a better relationship between the City and the community,’ he said.

The Melville Youth Advisory Council (YAC) will facilitate the project with the community voting on the final outcomes.

‘Project Robin Hood encourages community ownership of the decision making process.’

The $100,000 can be allocated in up to $20,000 bundles. Applications for projects will open in March, with community voting taking place in May.

Funds will be granted to the successful projects in June 2013.
