Sam’s big heart praised

The eight-year-old corgi was awarded a long-service medal for five dedicated years of service with Animal Companions.

It was his second medal ” a replacement after losing the original on a beach trip just days after the ceremony.

Sam’s owner Pauline Sweeny (57), of Palmyra, said Sam had been visiting aged-care facilities for the past five years through Animal Companions.

‘Sam makes a fantastic companion because he is very gentle and calm and loves people, especially if they give him treats,’ she said.

‘We visit two villages, once a week, and the residents just love him. We also do some tricks for them.’

Both Sam and Pauline have participated in training run by Animal Companions, which includes preparing Sam to be around wheelchairs and walking frames.
