HIS set includes 20 eye-catching pieces, but Mt Pleasant artist Peter Lowe has revealed he had plenty of opportunity to go bigger.

Mr Lowe added considerable flair to traditional Australian fauna road warning signs for his latest body of work, the Australian Road Sign Series.

He said he scoured the internet images, got help from state road groups and even drove through Tasmania and Melbourne to find inspiration for his set.

“I had to sift through and decide which ones I wanted to leave out and which ones I wanted to paint,” he said.

“I had up to 50 available.”

Mr Lowe prioritised Western Australian signs, followed by those that interested him most.

“I wanted to combine signs which are normally seen in isolation into a group setting, adapting the colour schemes to create dynamic relationships and visual impact,” he said.

“Many people would not be aware of the variety of these signs that exist on our nationwide roads.

“This series highlights the diversity of animals in rural Australia.”

In all, the series took five months to complete.

Mr Lowe said he was willing to sell the pieces, ideally as a set.
