Special meeting on merger

Staff ReporterMelville Gazette

The City previously said it was not in favour of slashing the number of local councils to just 12, suggested as the preferred option in the Robson Review last October.

At the time, Mayor Russell Aubrey said the City supported appropriate amalgamation; however it believed the aggressive recommendation to create a small number of large councils was not the appropriate option.

Last May the City submitted a recommendation to the Robson Review Panel saying an effective local government structure for metropolitan Perth was 15 local governments ranging from a population of 70,000 to 300,000 at 2026.
