THE tables were turned at Yidarra Catholic Primary School last month when one lucky student took charge as principal for the day.
Year 4 student Makayla Murray swapped places with principal Carmel Costin on September 11 after winning her way into the coveted position.
“We decided it would be a good opportunity for a student to see the school from the principal’s perspective,” Ms Costin said.
“So we ran a raffle, with the winner getting the chance to spend the day doing all the things I would do in a typical day at work.”
Wasting no time getting into her new role, Makayla was introduced to the school as principal and started her day with handing out merit awards and star of the week awards to worthy students and performing arts certificates to the school’s musicians.
Makayla also walked around the school, made classroom visits and contributed to the school newsletter.
“It was such a great day. I really enjoyed writing in the school newsletter and getting the chance to see other students in their classes too,” Makayla said.
While Makayla enjoyed her day as principal, she said it was not a career choice she was considering yet.
“I think I would like to become a teacher first,” she said.
