Ms Sawiris was described as a highly respected, innovative and skilled school leader and teacher.

"At the college she has planned and led significant change that has had a positive impact on her colleagues and students. Her innovation has been demonstrated in three main areas: Teaching and learning programs, professional growth in staff and in the physical environs of the science department," her nomination said.

ACEL WA President Keith Newton said the awards reflected the phenomenal work being undertaken at all educational levels across the State.

"It's wonderful for us to see not only the quality of the people nominated but the breadth," Mr Newton said.

"These awards highlight the great achievements and inroads made across the sector."
