Tributes flow for Luseni Traore who died after jumping into river at Blackwall Reach

TRIBUTES have flowed for the 18-year-old man who died after jumping into the Swan River at Blackwall Reach on Friday.

Luseni Traore got into difficulties after jumping into the water just after 5pm.

Mr Traore was a former student of Warwick Senior High School, and the school posted a tribute to him on Facebook.

“The entire Warwick SHS community is in mourning tonight as we come to terms with the tragic news of the passing of 2016 Leaver, Luseni Traore,” it said.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this most difficult time.”

Mr Traore was in his first year of an engineering degree at Curtin University.

Yahya Adel Ibrahim, Curtin’s Islamic Chaplain, said he was a popular student.

“With prayers of peace, mercy and forgiveness I share with you the sad news of the passing of one of our Muslim Curtin University students yesterday,” Mr Ibrahim wrote on Facebook.

“Luseni Traore a first year student at Curtin University passed away yesterday, Allah grant him peace.

“He graduated from Warwick Senior High School in 2016.

“He is known to his friends as a hardworker and would be able to make everyone laugh whatever the situation was.

“He was a regular at the Musallah and will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

“Please remember him in your prayers.”
