Sailability is a worldwide program that allows people with disabilities to experience the joy of sailing.
Run for the first time at SPYC last summer, the program caters for up to 16 participants every Wednesday morning, weather permitting.
Sailability SPYC co-ordinator Lynne Newton said about 30 volunteers ensured the sailors with disabilities had the support they needed to participate and enjoy their experience. She said all volunteers were specially trained by the Disability Services Commission so that they understood how best to assist in their roles.
Cranes and slings were available to transport people with low mobility into boats and sailing only takes place if the wind is less than 15 knots.
Melville Rotary has pledged ongoing support for the project to ensure its continuity.
