BASED on the repeated poor service I have received from the City of Melville over a number of years, I find it very hard to believe that it deserves an “outstanding” rating from the Customer Service Institute of Australia (Outstanding City service recognised”, Times, August 2).
Of all the inquiries I have submitted to the City (and I have lodged quite a few), I do not recall receiving an adequate response within the promised time for any of them.
When a response to my various inquiries was eventually received, on most occasions it was condescending and defensive.
The mostly negative experience I have endured leads me to believe that the City, like government bodies at all levels, is very reluctant to concede that the customer’s perspective or idea is worthy of any serious consideration – and that, by definition, is not good customer service.
