Ferry is no solution

DAVE TIERNEY, City BeachMelville Gazette

I SINCERELY hope that new Minister for Transport Dean Nalder doesn’t take up Frank Granger’s suggestion (Times, April 1) and waste scarce public transport funds to implement a ferry service between Applecross Jetty and the city.

This would do nothing at all to address what is perhaps Perth’s most pressing problem today, which is congestion.

Any funds available for public transport would be better spent on buying additional trains and buses to ease the present level of overcrowding on public transport which, in turn, would go a long way towards easing motorists out of their cars and taking some of the pressure off the overly congested road system.
