It’s been reported that the WA Salaries and Allowances Tribunal approved a 3 per cent pay for councillors, which is higher than the rate of inflation.

The position of mayors and councillors were voluntary positions up until a few years ago and the level of service was of a very high standard. Paying these people has not raised the standard of community commitment.

WA Local Government Association president Troy Pickard said that the increase was in line with general market indicators.
