WE should commend our councillors for achieving the status of being “the third most cashed up council in the whole of Perth”, at the same time maintaining good-quality facilities and services.
Over the years, with strata titling, the number of ratepayers has increased markedly. Strata titling commenced about 20 years ago and is still progressing at a fast pace.
Basic infrastructures have not changed nor increased correspondingly.
It would be interesting to compare the number of ratepayers now with what it was, say, 20 years ago.
Perhaps now the council is in the fortunate position where it does not have to sell any more public assets and can upgrade some important “age friendly” community facilities, such as the Melville Bowling Club.
