Opinion: Councillor Duncan MacPhail was offensive

I TAKE offence at Councillor Duncan Macphail labelling wave park opponents as ‘hypocrites’ (Melville Times, Tuesday, May 23).

For a start, I am not an Alfred Cove resident, and I support re-vegetation along the Attadale and Alfred Cove foreshore.

The Alfred Cove wetland is by far the most significant semi-enclosed wetland downstream of the Narrows and Canning bridges.

For this reason alone, as an environmental engineer with over 40 years experience, it does not take much thinking to come to the conclusion that a wave park in this location is a bad idea.

On top of this is the loss of green playing fields, which will become even more needed in the future.

Wave Park: good idea, just the wrong place.

Need to look up the definition of ‘hypocrite’.
