ON behalf of senior citizens of the Melville area, I have been asked to make it known what a disappointment these so-called improvements have been to Melville Library, and now it is going to happen at Bull Creek.

It's one more automation thing brought into use. Do the people who make these decisions ever think about the elderly who enjoy reading.

Maybe the friendly staff they speak to and help them to choose a book is the only contact with other people they have. Now it's choose a book, put it into a machine, press a button and off you go.

To return a book, put it into a hole in the wall and repeat the procedure if you want another: what an uninviting place the library now is to visit.
