Balga thump Melville City in State League Division 2 clash

Ben SmithMelville Gazette

MELVILLE City slumped to a 6-1 defeat to Balga FC at Len Shearer Reserve in round two of the State League Division Two .

Four goals from Vladimir Naumovski set Balga on their way to a comprehensive win over a disappointing Melville.

Melville was keen to pick up from where it left off last week, but found itself down early when Naumovski capitalised on a mistake from Mirko Grgurinoivc in goals.

Christian Long almost equalised when he met Scott Campbell’s cross, but his attempt flew just wide and soon Balga doubled its lead.

Naumovski beat the offside trap and although his first attempt was saved, he made no mistake on the rebound, despite looking to have fouled Graham Herd in doing so.

Balga did not have to wait long for another, Naumovski securing his hat trick with a tidy finish with Melville claims Daragh Lindsay was fouled in the build-up being ignored.

Melville got a glimmer of hope when Long drew a foul from Mile Petkovski in the area and El Chami converted from the spot.

However, any chance of a comeback was stamped out a minute after the restart when Naumovski found space in the box to sweep the ball home for his fourth.

A Dean Leeper header and a half-chance for Long, which was well saved by Anastasis Farsclas, were Melville’s best opportunities.

Melville’s day went from bad to worse when captain Matt Donlevy was sent off late and Hubert Hakizima made it 5-1 soon after.

Arji Tela rounded out the scoring in injury time for Balga.
