Basketball: Corpus Christi student heralded as future star

CORPUS Christi College student Carla Drennan has been heralded for her leadership after captaining the Associated and Catholic Colleges All Stars to a 70-45 win over School Sport WA at the Bendat Basketball Centre on Sunday.

The Year 11 student, captaining the team for a second straight year, was named most valuable player after top scoring with 18 points.

Corpus Christi College sports co-ordinator James Howard said the young star had developed into a fine leader.

“She is already a highly successful athlete but it is her combination of integrity and talent that will see her continue to rise and thrive at the elite level,” he said.

Carla described the win as “exciting”.

“We knew we had a very athletic team leading into the game so it was up to our combined effort to implement what we had been working on to bring about the win,” she said.

Carla said she would make Year 12 her priority before targeting an opportunity to play college basketball in the USA.
