Jaime ShurmerMelville Gazette

BOORAGOON karate instructor, ceiling fixer, and grandad Andrew Bennett has witnessed four of his grandchildren gain selection in the Australian Karate team to compete in Canada in September.

Anastacia Mateljan (15), Lilliana (13), Sarenna (12), and Anthony (10), have been training with their grandfather for seven years.

Mr Bennet is part of the Brian Mackie Karate Academy and instructs at his Dojo in Booragoon, O’Connor and in Perth city.

“It has been a huge physical and financial commitment from the children and their parents to get to this point, but the next five months will be the most intense the kids have experienced,” he said.
