Booragoon grandad trains four grandkids to selection in Australian Karate team

BOORAGOON karate instructor, ceiling fixer, and grandad Andrew Bennett has witnessed four of his grandchildren gain selection in the Australian Karate team to compete in Canada in September.

Anastacia Mateljan (15), Lilliana (13), Sarenna (12), and Anthony (10), have been training with their grandfather for seven years.

Mr Bennet is part of the Brian Mackie Karate Academy and instructs at his Dojo in Booragoon, O’Connor and in Perth city.

“It has been a huge physical and financial commitment from the children and their parents to get to this point, but the next five months will be the most intense the kids have experienced,” he said.

“Balancing school work, training and keeping their rooms tidy will be tough. I am very proud of what they have achieved so far and will do my best to keep them on track.”

A GofundMe page has been set up to help the four get to the World Championships.
