FOUR talented kids chopped up with the competition at the Australian Karate Federation National Championships in Queensland.

Jes Bromley, 15, Jamie Kafetzis, 13, Lucca Barnaba, 11, and Teo Roberts all train together at Brian Mackie’s Karate Life in Booragoon and O’Connor.

Jes won a gold, silver and two bronze, Jamie won a gold, silver and bronze, Lucca won a gold and Teo won a silver and bronze.

The titles were held in Caloundra on August 4 and 5 with more than 1000 competitors taking part in the senior and junior categories.

Coach Basil Gotsis said the karate school sent a team of 13 students from around Perth to the titles, including nine from the Melville and Fremantle area.

“We had 17 podium finishes, including five gold, four silver and eight bronze,” he said.

“The boys were training three or four times per week, including with Brian Mackie on Saturdays.

“The level of competition they faced is extremely high so it’s quite an achievement.”
