MITCH Marsh started life as Western Warriors captain in great fashion, with his side winning its opening two JLT One Day Cup fixtures over the weekend to sit top of the table.

The Warriors opened their account with a nine-run win over New South Wales at the WACA on Friday, with Shaun Marsh cracking an undefeated 132 from 136 in a total of 9-269 before the home bowlers scrambled to get the win.

On Sunday, the junior Marsh scored 47 from 52 and his brother again top-scored to help WA make it two from two by beating Victoria by 38 runs at the WACA.

The WA skipper hit just two boundaries as he came close to his first half century of the one-day competition this season, with Shaun smashing eight fours before he was bowled by Scott Bowland for 88.

In reply, former Warrior Marcus Harris crunched three sixes and three fours in a run-a-ball 47 and Seb Gotch scored 61 from 61 on debut to give the Bushrangers a chance of victory.

But Gotch’s departure left a little too much for his lower order to do, with the home side earning its second win from two starts.
