FIVE Melville players have been included in WA’s final 13-player squad for the Female Under-18 National Championships in Hobart next month.
The Storm’s Niamh Walsh, who competed at last year’s tournament, will skipper the side, with club mate Ashlee King sharing the deputy duties with Subiaco Floreat’s Jess Emery.
Rebecca West, Georgie Ireland and Georgie Middleton have also all made the cut.
The tournament runs from November 23-29 with WA hoping to improve on last year’s eighth-place.
WA coach Orazio Santalucia said the Under-18 squad had been working together since late July to improve their skills and fitness.
“There are eight girls who return from last season’s squad as well as a few Under-15 squad graduates from last season,” he said.
“The squad is still relatively young, but will compete hard looking to better last season’s disappointing tournament.
“Three of the squad (Walsh, West and King) are also part of the WACA Female Academy which has allowed the girls to integrate into the Western Fury program throughout the pre-season.
“I would expect solid contributions from these three girls as well as possibly putting forward a strong case for inclusion into the Cricket Australia Under-18 development squad at the conclusion of the tournament.”
