Cricket: Melville trio picked in WA squads for Australian Country Cricket Championships

THREE Melville players have been named in the WA squads for the upcoming Australian Country Cricket Championships in Wollongong.

Mitchell Jackson will form part of the male squad aiming for a repeat of its 2014 title-winning success while Georgie Middleton and Meg Thompson are in a female side attending the carnival for just the second time in its history.

Thompson, who hails from Bunbury originally, will captain the women’s side.

Michael Thistle will coach the males with South West’s Jono Whitney taking over as skipper from Rodney Ford.

The side will play 10 games – five T20s and five 50-over games.

Karol Guglielmana will coach the females, with Thompson, who made last year’s team of the tournament, at the helm.

The side will play six T20s before the finals.

The tournament commences in Wollongong on January 3 and runs to January 11.
