Cycling: Winthrop teen Lindorff claims Australian under-19 road cycling title

WINTHROP resident Tyler Lindorff is an under-19 Australian cycling champion after winning the Road Nationals in Ballarat earlier this month.

The 17-year-old blitzed a three-man break-away on the final lap to secure victory in windy conditions by 50 seconds.

Lindorff, who previously switched his focus from the track to road cycling, described the win as a dream come true.

“I knew with the course going downhill and through Federation University it was quite quick so it was just a matter of trying to get ahead,” he told the competition’s official website.

“I felt like I was the strongest on the last lap so I thought I would give it a nudge and I got away.”

Lindorff capped a solid campaign by picking up silver in the 22-kilometre individual time trial, finishing second to Luke Plapp by 2.5 seconds.

Third place was a further 30 seconds off the pace.
