Football: inexperienced Melville outclassed by Whitfords

Contributed sportMelville Gazette

A YOUNG Melville Rams outfit was outclassed by Whitfords 19.20 (154) to 7.9 (51) at Melville Reserve last Saturday.

Numbers were down during the week and four late changes to the team unsettled the side with five colts called up into the team on game day.

Despite the heavy loss there were some shining lights within the side.

Luke St Jack and Jordan Williamson both played under an injury cloud and showed real toughness and grit to both finish in the votes, while Callum Strnadica and Matthew Parker performed well to ensure the final score was not a total blow out.

Down back, it was fantastic to see life member Steph Adaszko return to form holding down full back against some quality opponents with significant AFL and WAFL experience.

The Rams expect players to come back into the side this week against Swan Athletic when it targets its first league win of the season.

In a top of the table Colts clash, the Ramlings fell short at the death to lose 11.9 (75) to 11.4 (70).

For the reserves, injuries and lack of depth continued to take their toll in a massive 29.16 (190) to 1.3 (9) defeat.
