MELVILLE Rams gave their life members and past players a reason to cheer with a thrilling one-point victory over Quinns District at Melville Reserve last Saturday.

In front of a packed clubhouse for life members, past players and sponsors day the Rams took a major step towards avoiding relegation with a 14.11 (95) to 14.10 (94) victory.

Up against a Quinns District just as desperate to avoid dropping back to C1 Grade, Melville produced one of its best efforts of the season.

A physical and entertaining encounter, the game was a back and forth tussle all the way to the end when Brent Pitcher kicked a late goal to put the Rams up by two points with a minute to go.

Quinns took the ball into its forward line and created a turn over resulting in a shot at goal.

With the balcony loaded and all the players watching on, the shot at goal struck the woodwork preserving Melville’s one-point win.

Earlier in the day the Melville Colts kicked six straight third quarter goals to cruise to a 13.11 (89) to 8.3 (51) victory over the Quinns District juniors and now sit fifth on the ladder but just one win and percentage away from second.

The reserves were on the receiving end of another lopsided result, losing 21.16 (142) to 3.5 (23).
