The 15-year-old fullback had his foot broken in a stick tackle while playing for WA at the Under-15 Australian Championships in Tasmania in April last year.

“It happened in the first 45 seconds of our semi-final game against NSW,” Dylan said.

“I don’t think it was purposeful but there was definitely some intent in the tackle; it was pretty agricultural.

“I broke three bones in my foot and that kept me out of hockey until just before Christmas.”

Dylan, who plays for Melville City Hockey Club, returned for the final two games of the season before travelling to Wollongong with the WA team in January.

His side was beaten 3-1 in the grand final by NSW but Dylan collected a share of the tournament MVP award to add to his silver medal.

“It was a very even game but in the end we didn’t take our opportunities and NSW slotted them in when they had the chance,” he said.
