KARDINYA Bowling Club have welcomed a top coach this week for a series of sessions.

Geoff Maskell coached the Cook Islands to a bronze medal in the men’s pairs at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, which was the nation’s first medal ever at the games.

Maskell is holding 13 sessions with bowlers, with his focus on improving their technique and mentality.

“The idea of the sessions is to show people how to be a better bowler and improve their understanding of the game,” he said.

“There are core elements that can improve your bowling, there is the technical side but you also need to understand the objectives of the game and how to outscore your opponent.

“The sessions have been well-received, I was expecting 27 bowlers at the first session and we had 50 people come down.”

Maskell said the experience of helping the Cook Islands win the bronze medal was amazing.

“I’ve noticed with the top bowlers that their technique is consistent and they have a huge desire to win,” he said.
