A PUSH to have parents of junior players pick up a racquet and get out on court has proven a smash for a local tennis club.

Since it began in February, the Kardinya Tennis Club’s (KTC) weekly Cardio Tennis class has proven so successful a third coach has had to be added.

The classes are held every Thursday night and focus on tennis skills, cardio building and the fun of loud music.

KTC secretary Kath Sugars said the aim was for a “high-energy, fun, affordable activity that welcomes beginners”.

“We wanted to get the parents of our junior players to pick up a racquet and get out on court themselves, no matter their level of skill or fitness,” she said.

“Almost every participant has ended up joining, so it has been a real boost to our adult membership and the sense of family involvement in the club.”
